Frontier
Some would argue that the American frontier is a state of mind rather than a geographical location. From the earliest days of European settlement, the frontier moved slowly but surely westward. The fuzzy boundary between the settled, civilized east coast towns and the wild, uncharted interior of the country was populated by traders, hunters, pioneers, and adventurers. For Native Americans, the advance of these colonists often meant the loss of their land. Frontier life was unpredictable and often dangerous, but full of opportunity for those who could survive it. We are now pushing new frontiers in technology, space, and medicine.
